At Edward W. Nottingham, LLC., I provide more than 45 years of federal court experience to other lawyers who need assistance with or consulting on a federal court case.
I sat on the bench on the Federal District Court from 1989 until 2008, and served as an assistant U.S. attorney before my tenure as a judge. I developed a strong understanding of federal law and procedure and this allows me to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your case, and help you formulate the most effective strategy to meet the needs of your client.
Federal Court Litigation
I work with lawyers who seek guidance on litigation in the federal courts. I can assist you with a broad range of federal court cases, such as:
- Criminal prosecutions
- Securities litigation
- Intellectual property disputes, including patent, copyright, trademark or trade secret actions
- General civil disputes, from breach of contract to business torts
In nearly two decades on the federal bench, I personally presided over a wide variety of cases. I know what works and what doesn’t. With that perspective, I can quickly tell you if a proposed strategy can be effective.
Advisor Or Co-Counsel
When you hire me to consult on your federal case, I can either enter an appearance and act as second attorney on the case, or I can advise you without making an appearance. In either instance, I can prepare any briefs, help you construct your arguments, and assist you during trial.
Special Master Services
I am also available for appointment as a special master or hearing officer. A special master is often appointed by a court to perform a specific task or provide specialized knowledge for a matter. A special master may be requested by the parties to the litigation to assist with pretrial discovery matters in complex multi-party litigation or to provide knowledge or skill for a particular issue within the litigation.
As a former federal judge, I have substantial experience with a broad spectrum of issues that develop during disputes and can serve as a special master for a large range of legal topics.
